The annual Pioneering Israeli Medicine Conference, hosted by Science Abroad (established in 2008), fosters innovation and is dedicated to bringing top scientists, researchers, and medical experts to Israel, with the goal of advancing collaborations and making groundbreaking contributions to the country’s exceptional healthcare ecosystem. Professor Beyar is a world-renowned interventional cardiologist, researcher, physician-scientist, innovator, and former dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, spoke with authority at the conference on September 22 in New York.

Professor Beyar’s distinct experience ensured that the panel discussion, titled “Fireside: From the Front Line to the Home Front – Lessons from Medical Responders,” captivated the audience. Co-panelists Uri Shacham from Magen David Adom (Israel’s first response unit) and Professor Roy Kessous, Deputy Director of Beersheba’s Soroka Medical Center, also participated in this discussion.

Earlier in the day, during a segment titled “Innovating Health: Healthcare Systems Driving Medical Breakthroughs,” Professor Beyar shared his extensive experience as Rambam’s former director and founder of the hospital’s technology transfer company. He highlighted the importance of research based on medical challenges encountered at the patient’s bedside. Professor Beyar emphasized that the synergy between medical expertise, clinical experience, and innovation is what drives advancements in global healthcare.

During the 2006 Second Lebanon War, Haifa was bombarded by missiles, with some landing just meters from Rambam. Lessons learned from that war inspired Professor Beyar’s vision of a fortified underground hospital capable of operating in similar future crises. Today, that vision has been realized. With the escalating Hezbollah threat in Northern Israel, Rambam’s three-level, Fortified Underground Emergency Hospital—a national security asset—has become a crucial provider of healthcare services to wounded soldiers, civilians, and the community.

In his capacity as President of Rambam’s International Friends Associations, Professor Beyar regularly represents Rambam at international events.
