Division of Surgery

The Division of Surgery at Rambam Health Care Campus, under the direction of Professor Doron Norman, encompasses all of the departments and units specializing in the various aspects of surgery, including urology, pediatric urology, urodynamics, adult and pediatric orthopedics, hand surgery, plastic surgery—including breast reconstruction and cosmetic surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiac and vascular surgery, otorhinolaryngology surgery, head and neck surgery, eye surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and general surgery. The Division of Surgery is also responsible for managing the surgical personnel and coordinating with hospital departments and units.

The Division of Surgery is active in developing and improving the hospital's surgical services by expanding the types of surgery performed, applying advanced technologies, and coordinating recruitment of surgeons with unique specializations.

Members of the Division of Surgery are active participants in various research and teaching programs, including training interns and residents according to scientific council guidelines, sending surgeons overseas to learn specific sub-specialties, initiating cooperation and collaboration with other medical centers, and supporting research activities.

​Dr. Yehuda Ullmann is the acting director of the Department of Plastic Surgery and Burn Unit at Rambam Health Care Campus. He is also the founder and director of the Aesthetic Plastic Service at Rambam, and is a clinical associate professor of Plastic Surgery, in the Ruth & Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

Dr. Ullman received his MD from the Technion’s Faculty of Medicine in 1981. He specializes primarily in facial, breast and abdominal aesthetic surgeries, burns, dermatologic surgery and reconstruction of pediatric congenital anomalies, such as cleft lip and palate. His research interests relate mainly to fat injection, wound healing, trauma, and laser procedures.

He has more than 120 original scientific articles basic and clinical scientific articles (including basic and clinical research) and nine chapters in books to his credit. He served as Chairman of the Israeli Society of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery from 2009-11. He is currently Chair of the Physician’s Union at Rambam and Vice-chair of the State Employed Physician’s Organization.

Division of Internal Medicine A

Department Internal Medicine A is one of six internal medicine departments within the Internal Medicine Division of Rambam Health Care Campus.
The department diagnoses and treats a wide range of medical conditions involving the body's systems, including the heart, respiratory system, digestive system, kidneys, and infectious diseases.


The department has isolation rooms for treating patients with immunosuppression, post-chemotherapy, or bone marrow transplants. It also treats mechanically ventilated patients in an intensive care unit.


The department's staff includes physicians in infectious diseases, nephrology, and gastroenterology, who contribute their expertise to patient care and the training of residents and students. The department also has a team of nurses with bachelor's degrees who are skilled in caring for critically ill patients requiring intensive care.

Department Internal A is a teaching department for medical students from the Technion Faculty of Medicine during their clinical years, as well as for international medical students. The department's teaching activities have received excellent feedback.


In addition, Department  Internal A serves as a training department for the nursing program at the University of Haifa and the Jezreel Valley College.


Department Internal A has a research unit that conducts clinical trials and involves department physicians in collaboration with pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies.


The department maintains academic activities, including clinical meetings, X-ray meetings, Journal club, ongoing lectures for staff, and pathology meetings.
The department has a follow-up clinic for discharged patients.

Professor Ayelet Raz Pasteur

Professor Ayelet Raz-Pasteur is Director of the Department of Internal Medicine A and a senior physician in the Infectious Diseases Unit at Rambam Health Care Campus.

​

She received her MD with Excellence from the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, in 1995. After completing her internship with Excellence (1997) at Rambam, Professor Raz-Pasteur completed an Internal Medicine residency (2001) there, joined the hospital as a senior physician, and went on to complete a subspecialty in infectious diseases.

​

During the first wave of the pandemic, Professor Raz-Pasteur headed Rambam’s first dedicated COVID-19 department.

A Clinical Associate Professor in the Technion's Faculty of Medicine, Professor Raz-Pasteur has received multiple Excellent Lecturer awards from the Technion’s Faculty of Medicine (1999, 2005, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2019), as well as the Excellent Employee award from Israel’s Ministry of Health in 2011. In 2019, she was appointed Chairman of the Internal Medicine Circle, in the Technion’s Faculty of Medicine.

Professor Raz-Pasteur’s research deals with understanding the mechanisms associated with hypertension: the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, and atherosclerosis. She is also pursuing studies related to infectious diseases, with a particular focus on prognostic factors in patients with resistant bacteria infection, the relationship between antibiotics consumption and the development of resistant bacteria, therapeutic options for eradication of resistant bacteria in carriers, and epidemiological studies related to infections in hospitalized patients in Rambam’s departments of plastic surgery and orthopedics. For the last ten years, she has been leading extensive research in the field of heart rate variability.
